Gordon,

I think you mean Gum Swamp (not Blue Gum Swamp which is at Winmalee in the Blue Mountains). In my opinion Gum Swamp is definitely worth a visit at any time of year. It can be a good place to see Freckled and Blue-billed Ducks, among other things, but I think your chances of seeing them are more to do with the amount of rain in the region and elsewhere, than time of year.

Gum Swamp is easy to find, about 5km SW of Forbes on the road to West Wyalong.

Cheers,
Carol

I am heading out to Parkes for a week with friends. It will be a family
holiday, but I hope to get out to the sewer treatment plant and have a look
around.

Is there anything much there at this time of year, or have most birds flown
the coop, so to speak?

Also, are there any other good birding spots in the vicinity of Parkes, and
is it worth travelling to Blue Gum Swamp at Forbes - will it have much that
won't be at Parkes STP?

Thanks in advance for all help!

Cheers

Gordon Cain
