Urban Bush Thickknees

Why "Thickknees"?  I have a 1989 copy of Simpson and Day that calls
them Thick-knees (with a hyphen), but recent ones all call them
Stone-curlews.  Cayley calls it a Bush Curlew or Stone Plover.
