The main pond is now pretty well bone dry, just a couple of damp patches. No
sign of crakes or rails there now.

The puddles at the northern platform are getting smaller but seem to have a bit
of depth to them. Lewin's Rails and Spotless Crakes are showing fairly easily
there still. I've noticed more and more squabbling between them, so perhaps
they're starting to feel a bit crowded, not helped by the Dusky Moorhen that's
also moved up there.

Yesterday's rain didn't eventuate, but showers are forecast for tomorrow
afternoon.

I'll be in Bright from tomorrow afternoon so I won't be able to check how
things are going until late next week. If anyone notices that the conditions
have changed (e.g. water level risen or no birds) in the meantime, could you
please report it here, just so people aren't turning up for nothing or watching
from the wrong platform?

Location: Melway ref 54 C10, behind Mt St Joseph Girls' College in
Altona, north of the railway line. Closest parking to the northern
platform (200m) is at the corner of Galvin St and Civic Pde.

Happy Easter everyone,
Peter Shute
