The local photographic laboratory has a sign up for all customers to see.

"We can supply high quality, fast and cheap. All three are impossible. You tell us which two you want."

I have found it applies just as much to slide conversion as to anything else.

I was under the impression that this was not just a cheap way around it, but 
was done in order to get good results, perhaps at a reasonable price. I can try
