Hi all,
My wife Raja and I spent the weekend in the Blue Mountains. Lots of King
Parrots, Crimson Rosellas and Eastern Whipbirds there!
Saturday we visited Blue Gum Swamp near Winmalee. We saw most of the expected
species there (but dipped on some wanted ones: Gang-gang, Pilotbird and
Rockwarbler). We saw Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, several Fantailed Cuckoos
(including a chick fed by a Large-billed Scrub-wren!), Channel-billed Cuckoo,
Dollarbird, Noisy Friarbird, Crested Shrike-tit, Black-faced Monarch and many
more common species.
Interestingly a lot of the birds there were banded/ringed (with aluminum
bands/rings):
White-throated Treecreeper
Red-browed Treecreeper
Brown Gerygone
Brown Thornbill (at least two banded)
Golden Whistler (two banded males)
Sunday highlights were 3 Glossy Black Cockatoos (1 male and 2 females), a pair
of Superb Lyrebirds, Striated Thornbills, an Eastern Brown Snake and a White’s
Skink at Evan’s Lookout (no Grey Currawongs)
Monday – during a lunch break of the conference I attended in Katoomba – a
Peregrine divebombed right in front of us at the Three Sisters and caught
something we weren’t able to identify
Cheers,
Nikolas
