We had a great morning on the Western Treatment Plant, although I am
embarrassed to say I did not see the Ruff, Pectoral nor Broadbill I did see
waders in their thousands all along the shore line, just magic. It must be
bird paradise after travelling from Siberia and other exotic places.
The Whiskered terns were hawking insects and small fish near the mouth of
Little River and that was the scene of most activity. Stints, stints and
more stints. Sharpies and Curlews in great numbers too. The Godwits were
out in the Bay as were the Swans, Cormorants, Ducks- all varities,
Spoonbills, Ibis, Terns, Oystercatchers, Silver Gulls and more (Feel like
the guys from The Chaser) Red-kneed Dotterel, Black-tailed Native Hens,
Purple Swamps, Dusky Moor and still more. Avocet , Black-winged stilts,
Songlarks, Reed warblers???.
While driving around Lake Borrie there were many Cisticolas and a Cuckoo
stalking around, a couple of Cisticolas were very agitated.
There was a Swamp Harrier making the life of a Brown Falcon quite miserable.
The Black Kite was about too.
I did not do a count, I just enjoyed the birds. The day was good but
unfortunately no sun thus Doug was unable to get any good photos.
So if you have a permit and a key and make a booking do get down and enjoy
the magic too.
