Hi Martin,

There is an organization called `wires' who can help you, if they have
anyone in your area. The web site is www.*wires*.org.au.

I've read a little bit about this, and wires can recommend an insectivore
mix or a carnivore food mix especially for native birds. If you end up
feeding it mince meat (which will keep it alive), it will need to have a
calcium supplement so its bones will grow.

If you do raise the baby yourself, I'd suggest giving it a worm treatment
(there's one called worm rid that can be found at pet stores). Many young
babies die of gape worm and other worm infestations. Gape worm will cause
the baby to starve and suffocate to death and is extremely common, sadly.
The worms are usually passed to the adult and then to the young via earth
worms, snails, and slugs (so don't feed your baby those things).

Good luck with the little one! I am a little jealous:) Baby magpies are just
incredible to watch, and so playful.

 Nat
