I saw my first Tree Sparrow a couple of weeks ago. It had the dark mark on its cheek and a buff collar, just like the pictures in Simpson & Day, Slater and Morcombe. But not Pizzey. Pizzey (Ed. 7) shows no collar. Do they ever not have the collar?
