Hi All

Birding is going well in Proserpine area at the moment with bustards along the highway and on plains area to dingo beach, including brolgas along coastline and shore areas occasionally.
A great birding spot and good mangrove robin location is down the end of  Glen Isla Rd. (terminates at Proserpine River) Turn right into Glen Isla Rd if  coming from the south at the bend in the road into Proserpine. At the end, park and walk to the right of the park area about 100m along the dirt road and on the left is a group of mangroves. Go to the bank of the river area and walk behind the mangroves. The robins are easily whistled up by imitating their call. In the drier weather and while there is water on the plains this area is great for birding. On the weekend I got 50 species in 30 minutes. At present, good birding. Species include Great Bowerbird, White-eared Monarch, Spectacled Monarch, Fairy Greygone, White-gaped HE's, Lemon bellied FC etc.Great photo opportunites as well.

Also, a few week ago I was playing golf at the Proserpine Golf Club and saw a group of 40+ Bushstone Curlew amongst the cattle yards to the left of the course.I haven't been back to see if any or all of this group frequent the area.

Another interesting find was a Channel-billed Cuckoo at Bowen several weeks ago. A work colleague Cliff Hookham  photographed the bird which looked very old and crook and probably failed to migrate. It was on the track to the lookout cafe area near Horseshoe Bay.

Cheers
