At Marlay Point, Lake Wellington, Gippsland, on Sunday, we saw two smaller terns with many cresteds. One was larger than the other, and being the world's worst at identifying these things I emailed Mike Carter. Mike came up to have a look, and yesterday we watched up to 8 in widely varying plumage. Mike suggested it would be a useful exercise to put up photos for interested people to have a look and comment on the species. The smaller terns were feeding well out in the lake in company with the cresteds.
The photos are here,

The first four images show the ones we saw on Sunday, the rest are from yesterday's visit. Feel free to comment, and Mike will elucidate in due course. DF.
