Philip,We've had Masked Owl on our property (Maleny,SEQ) for about the last 6 weeks, at least three (which implies a family, and breeding nearby ). We hear them every night, on dusk, and sometimes during the night and before dawn. See them less frequently (maybe every third night), but sightings are good and easy as they perch ,albiet briefly (no more than 5 mins) in tall eucs only 20m from back verandah. A couple of local birders have tried their luck, with limited success. John K came 3 nights in a row and unfortunately got only the briefest glimpes on two nights (he did learn the calls though!!)
