I nearly caused a divorce last night. It was about midnight and we were both asleep, when I woke to hear the "whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo" of a tawny frogmouth nearby. I jumped out of bed and said "listen, it's a frogmouth". Jan felled me with a well-aimed right cross. When I came to, I crawled to the window and peered out. The bird was on the cable from the street pole to our house (Kew East). A new one for the garden list. I went back to bed very quietly.
