New Clements book

Actually in the "good old days" when Clements was alive he tended to
incorporate changes from national "authorities" into the list. Of course in
the case of species that occur in several countries that is not easy as two
country "authorities" may not agree on the treatment of a species - and of
course many countries do not have recognised national authorities in any
case.

Whether the new "Clements" will follow this approach remains to be seen, but
I think there is a fair chance that any new C&B splits/lumps will eventually
make their way into Clements.

The new Clements keeps Greater and Lesser Sooty Owl separate.

When the new Christides & Boles arrives you may have to decide which
list you prefer:-)

I think the comment is valid, there seems to be an 'anti-lumping'
sentiment amongst twitchers and example of this was put quite
forcefully no this list not so long ago (where lumpers were somehow
likened to paedophiles, quite offensive really).

As I have said before, many birders are keen to accept splits to
increase their own list, but ignore lumps which are equally as valid.
Such an example of this is the lumping of sooty and lesser sooty owl.
