Others seem concerned with Eric Finley's report of 2 Ospreys on French
Island, suggesting that it is more likely that they were White-bellied
Sea-Eagles. I was more gob-smacked by his report of a Beautiful Firetail,
not previously known from there or anywhere nearby. These reports need
substantiation. Incidentally, single Ospreys have been seen on the adjacent
Mornington Peninsula on a few occasions but no Beautiful Firetails in the
last 60 years or so.

Subject: French Island, VIC 6 Apr
Did a few hours cycling around this beautiful island from the ferry
point at Tankerton on Good Friday 6 April.
Also good numbers of Flame and Scarlet Robins. 7 Grey Currawongs - all
solo. 35 Pied Oystercatchers at the ferry landing. 1 Beautiful Firetail
between the jetty and the general store. Large numbers of Willie
Wagtails in groups of 6-10 - looked like some kind of local movement
occurring. Also 2 Ospreys close to Tankerton - not sure if this is
unusual for this area.
