I agree Colin departure dates are very difficult. When doing the Geelong Bird Report we tried (and now I am not there, they try) to get departure dates but it is hard. The person (sorry I can't remember who it was) who said the other day that every night he writes down every bird he saw that day should be able to do this, but I am sorry to say I am too lazy.

One of my projects for this year is to try to record last dates for Koels and Channelbills. Every day I write on the calendar if I saw or heard either. As of today 11 March my last Koel was on Thursday 8 March (heard at Atkinson Dam in SE Qld) and my last Channelbill was today 11 March, one seen from my verandah, being chased or followed by a Crow (but was this a foster parent driving it away from home, or begging it to come back?. What will tomorrow bring?)
