In my case it was my early twenties (my immediate supervisor in
my first job was Tania Ireton), but having her as a mentor certainly
inspired me to take up birding specifically from my general interest
in nature.  Other mentors include Ian Fraser, and Phil Hansbro who
got me into pelagic trips.  All have an enthusiasm for birds that
is truly contagious.
