For those planning on looking for the Powerful Owl at Cumberland State Forest i have some perhaps disappointing news. I went for a quick look this afternoon to find the lower section of the Forestry trail closed at the entrance near the carpark. I was able to go around the long way only to find that the Angophora that sits in the "angophora platform" (noted in previous emails) has snapped in the recent high winds. It is now a 10m high stump with the rest of the beautiful tree a tangled mess across the creek and track. The point in regards to the owls is that the recent roost that has been reported was in a tree only 10-15m from the big Angophora fall. Needless to say they were no longer there. No sign of them further down the creek either. I would assume that this disturbance would cause them to find alternative "accommodation".

On a different note, went out to the Sphinx Memorial in Ku-ring-gai NP and saw the White-throated Nightjar at 8:35pm. Very cool.
Didn't see or hear any Owlet Nightjars though.

Cheers
