Those who are interested in such things have watched the evidence for global warming slowly mount up over the years. But, judging by the amount of media attention over the last few weeks (in Victoria, at least), you'd think the ice caps had suddenly started melting and we'd all be under water by Christmas.

A few months ago there was only the occasional mention in the papers. Now there are pages of it. I'm not saying it's unjustified or a bad thing, just questioning why the sudden panic. Sceptics might wonder if a certain prime minister is encouraging it as a diversion from Iraq and IR laws.
