Hi there Peter,

I have the previous model the Canon Powershot S2 IS. The zoom lens is wonderful and is excellent for casual bird photography. It would not be classed in the professional range; there are several better systems for professionals - and more expensive.

For my reasons check this article I wrote on my blog

Also check out the photo gallery on my blog - all taken with the Canon.

Hope this helps.

Trevor

Has anyone here tried a camera with image stabilisation? This seems to be becoming more common on digital cameras. I've been looking at the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. With 12x optical zoom it has a maximum focal length of 432mm which should, in theory, be more useful with the camera's optical image stabilisation, but I haven't tried it.
