Hi,
Headed out yesterday to see how the arrival of waders in Morton Bay
was going and I was't disappointed!
I visited Manly Yacht Club, Queens Esplanade (Thornside), and The Port
of Brisbane (PoB).
Manly and PoB were very good, but the tide was so high that Queens
Esplande was totally covered in water, so no birds were present.
Of note, out of all the birds I saw, I could only pick one juvenile
bird out, a Curlew Sandpiper at PoB.
Here are my counts for the two sites:
Manly:
Red-necked Stint 100
Bar-tailed Godwit 150
Eastern Curlew 27
Whimbrel 16
Grey-tailed Tattler 300
Curlew Sandpiper 70
Turnstone 6
Pacific Golden Plover 1
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper 27
Terek Sandpiper 14
Great Knot 18
Pied Oystercatcher 64
Red-capped Plover 4
Lesser Crested Tern 6
Port of Brisbane (combined counts for the wader roost site near the
Mangrove Boardwalk at the end of Wynnum Road, and the mangroves just
south of the PoB Port Office):
Bar-tailed Godwit 600
Red-necked Stint 200
Black-winged Stilt 60
Red-necked Avocet 1
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper 30
Curlew Sandpiper 200
Eastern Curlew 30
All the best,
Graham
