Good evening Birders,
Just got back from a longish walk around the Blue Gum Swamp area in the Blue
Mountains. No major sightings to report; the best sightings were non-birds,
a great look at a Brown Antechinus, and probable Dusky Antechinus. The real
news of the day was behavioural. There was a Brown Cuckoo-Dove, sitting in a
Euco checking me out just before dusk. it was quite close, sitting in a
branch just above me. After a little while it hopped about impatiently,
bobbing up an down. it then jumped off the branch and tried to land on my
hat. I ducked a little and it flew over, landed on a branch behind me then
hopped and turned to face me again. It then had another go at me, trying a
little harder to land on me. I ducked a little again and it returned to it's
perch. More bobbing and general agitation followed. I didn't hang around to
find out what would have happened next. I hate to think what could have
happened! They're mean looking birds. I might still be down there now,
fighting him off if I hadn't made a break for it.
Evan
