G’day all,
I am about to head off to England (yeah, great time to be flying I know) for
the Rutland Bird Fair, which is like a caravan and camping show for birders.
Roy Sonnenberg of Brisbane Birding Services is kindly letting me share his
stall so I can try and get the Brits interested in The Big Twitch. Am hoping
some mega rarity turns up so I can go a fair dinkum twitch just to see the
madness of it all. As demonstrated in Mark Whittaker’s tremendous article
last weekend, we were all amazed that a couple of hundred twitchers made the
journey. The mind boggles at the thought of thousands turning up on a
twitch. The Bird Fair alone attracts 18,000+ so you can see we’re not
talking small potatoes here.
For anyone interested, I now have a basic website up to promote the book.
It is HYPERLINK "http://www.thebigtwitch.com/"www.thebigtwitch.com and there
is a blog component where I hope to be able to update regularly about what
actually goes on at these bird fairs.
Don’t see anything too exciting while I am away.
Dools
