G'day all,
it seems as though the aim here is not to actually catch birds, but to keep them out of areas where they cause problems. There are several 'ponds' near Sydney airport with nets over them to discourage birds (bird strike is a big worry). And warehouses often have problems with pigeon poop, not only on stock but as a health concern for employees.

The worrying thing about this site is them wanting to sell gill nets to recreational angler. The damage these things can do has to be seen to be believed.
