Hi Russell,

I saw a bird a year or so ago, that i think was a Rose-ringed Parrot. It
was on the corner of Aberdeen and Pakington Street (Newtown suburb
boundary), so perhaps it is the same bird???

I got a photo, so i'll try to dig it up and send it to you if i find it.

Cheers,

Peter

[Birding-Aus] Long-tailed parrot in Geelong (prob esc)

Hi all

On the way to work yesterday morning I was waiting at a red light and
watched a mixed flock of Galahs and Rainbow Lorikeets flying past.
The flock wheeled a couple of times and split into a couple of groups
- more or less a group of each species, though I think a few Galahs
stayed with the lorikeets. Then I noticed a long-tailed bird flying
with them - and possibly being pursued by the lorikeets. At first I
thought it was a cockatiel (I see an escaped one every few months
around here) but it was clearly much bigger than the lorikeets, a
little thicker-bodied and longer. The long tail was very noticeable,
but the only colour I could pick out was pale green. I couldn't
relocate the birds before the lights changed.

A Princess Parrot turned up at my school last year, and was reunited
with its grateful owner. The bird I saw yesterday appeared longer -
any ideas what it might be? It was in Newtown, near central Geelong.
