I made the initial ID, folks, using P Hayman et al, *Shorebirds: an
Identification guide to the Waders of the World*, and the details are on
page 82 of the 1986 edition. You will note that the bird has a summer/winter
migration pattern from northern Asia (Manchuria, etc) to a belt across from
northern India through to northern Vietnam. I suspect this individual got
itself mixed in with a flock of waders that travel further, to Australia,
and I am guessing it may have been around since October last year.

Hi all, Great trip reports but can anybody give some background info on
the species, where it is usually found, its migration patterns and how it
may of come to be at Barren Junction.
