Hi Jade,
Here is what the Australian Faunal Directory http://www.deh.gov.au/
biodiversity/abrs/online-resources/fauna/index.html
has to say:
Cacatoes galerita queenslandica Mathews, G.M. (1912). A Reference-
List to the Birds of Australia. Novit. Zool. 18: 171-446 [264]
[publication dated as Jan. 1912, published Jan.].
Type data: holotype AMNH 619613 adult (G.M. Mathews' coll. no. 4323); for identification of holotype,
see Greenway, J.C. (1978). Type specimens of birds in the American
Museum of Natural History. Pt 2. Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. 161: 1-306.
Type locality: Cooktown, N QLD (although holotype labelled with
locality 'Johnstone River', type locality specified as 'Cooktown'
both in original description and by Greenway, J.C. (1978). Type
specimens of birds in the American Museum of Natural History. Pt 2.
Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. 161: 1-306).
It seems to me that queenslandica was a name used by Mathews for a
subspecies that did not survive the Taxonomists. I would be
interested in hearing anyone else's opinions.
Cheers,
