This is mainly for locals.
The young of the Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes that nested just north of the
public toilets north of the Ricketts Point Tea House left the nest in the
last couple of days but are still calling in the area.
On Wednesday (25/1) I surfaced when snorkelling off the Tea House Reef to
find a Little Penguin just 3 metres in front of me. It dived but was soon
preening.
On Friday 27/1 I was paddling in a kayak with Pat Graham in search of an
unidentified bird and we saw a young(?) Common Sandpiper at the base of the
cliffs between Cromer and Charman Roads. It would not be visible from the
shore.
And today there was a pair of Red-rumped Parrots feeding in the western fire
break of the Long Hollow Reserve.
Earlier in the month I saw 2 Purple Swamphens apparently with a nest at the
Elster Creek wetland on the Elsternwick Golf Course.
