Hi Birders,Annabel Ashworth asks whether a Diamond Dove seen 22km E of Tamworth along the Peel River, is likely to be an escapee. The answer is no, Diamond Doves make irregular irruptions into eastern NSW most years, in small numbers. However in 2005/6 there have been more records than usual and in the Tamworth District they were reported at Trinkey SF on 1/10/05 by J.Peattie and at Ravensfield HSD Tamworth on 12/10 by E. Fair (source: Tamworth Birdwatchers Newsletter Nov 2005). It is possible that more have been seen since October.
