I observed a pair of Hooded Plovers for most of the day at Point Nepean,
Mornington Nat Park. When it comes to birds I'm a beginner, but they
possibly looked like they were attempting to create a nest. One of
them, presumably the female, was going high up onto the dune where the
tide didn't affect it and was making a crater (kicking sand) into the
dune. It would then sit there, until it was disturbed by people walking
past. However it did come back to the same spot a few times. Out of
interest, what happens if they do nest and have eggs or young. Is the
female behaviour similar to that of the Red-capped Plover when
approaching it's nest? Or will they be more inclined to abandon the nest?
Regards
Darryl
