My first bird of 2006 was two Bush Stone-Curlews on the footpath as we were seeing off our guests at 12:45am on New Years Day. Highlight of the day was 41 Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo's feeding on the ground near the entrance to "famous" Anderson Park here in Townsville - those who have read The Big Twitch may recall this is where Sean Dooley got Oriental Cuckoo (#688). What I presume is the 20 year old bower Sean mentions has since been abandoned. Yesterday a Great Bowerbird was busy erecting a new bower a few hundred metres away.
