Hi all
Sydney readers will no doubt be familiar with that city's recent influx of
Bogong moths - my office building in the city had a pretty fair carpet of
them outside the doors every morning for a week a little while back. It now
seems that the Ravens are hoovering up the corpses - looking out of my
office window yesterday morning, there were no fewer than 13 black birds
grubbing about on the flat roof about 5 stories down, clearly picking up the
dead bodies from gutters, drainage covers and the like. My only question,
without getting a good look, is are they Ravens or Little Ravens? - they
don't seem thick set enough for Ravens, lack a clear set of throat hackles,
but do seem to have pale feather bases - perhaps they are young birds.
Whatever they are, they are enjoying the bounty while it lasts.
I'll need to take my bins to the office to have a better look - that'll
raise a few comments from my colleagues no doubt!
Cheers
Tom Wilson
