Hi all
last week I wrote about a large group of "ravens" that were hoovering up the
dead Bogong moths on the roof of an office building near my place of work in
the Sydney CBD. Several features made me ask whether they were Ravens or
Little Ravens (notably they didn't seem thick set enough for Ravens, lacked
a clear set of throat hackles, although did seem to have pale feather bases)
Several people advised that I looked for a "wingflip" when the bids called,
which is a Little Raven characteristic.
I have been looking (often when I'm on the phone, so I was still working -
honest!) and have not seen this. There have definitely been adult Ravens
about as well (much more obviously than last week), so I suspect that what I
saw was a gang of Raven teenagers out and about, with the adults keeping an
eye on them from somewhere.
I wasn't game enough to use my bins - there's an apartment block and hotel
in direct viewing line from my desk past where the Ravens were.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
