Further to Tom's posting, no signs of any Koels here in Penrith, but there
was a Channel-billed Cuckoo high in a tree behind Panthers Club on Tuesday
morning.
The Pied Currawongs are nesting in the tree in front of my house where a CBC
was raised in 2003, so maybe they will be getting a visit again. There are
Red Wattlebirds in virtually every tree around here at the moment.
A Peregrine has been cruising around over the Nepean River several mornings
this week, and a Royal Spoonbill was wading in a small wetland area at
Regentville yesterday. The mild winter seems to have brought out the nesting
instinct in many birds here. The flock of Straw-necked Ibis which arrived in
Jamieson Park early June appears to have struck camp and headed south for
their breeding season.
