hi all my wife and i went for a quick flit down to penrhyn estuary in toxic botany bay at low tide on sat arvo to try out our new scope and lens in the hope a few waders might be about. we were not disappointed. there were 20+ bar-tailed godwits, a few black-winged stilts, a mixed flock of red-capped and double-banded plovers. among them was a lovely pacific golden plover and three or four red-necked stints. after downing tools for a kick in the park at rushcutters bay, we stumbled upon a nankeen night heron right on nightfall. the adult bird was sitting on the boom where the canal flows into the bay and we got a good look despite the poor light. last thursday on a golden afternoon at ben buckler, the headland at north bondi, i spotted a black-browed albatross along with 7 humpbacks but not much else birdwise on a very glassy ocean. sorry for the late posting on this one. happy birding shane b vaucluse |
