Crested Pigeons have been seen regularly around Geelong for about 3 years, and spasmodically prior to that. There have been at least a dozen birds around Geelong Grammar School's Corio campus for a year or two, and there is some evidence of breeding here or nearby - juveniles have been seen with adults, and courtship rituals have been observed.

Today I was surprised to see a large group of Crested Pigeons on powerlines beside the school - on Foreshore Road, close to where it turns off Shell Road, opposite the Shell Refinery. There were 29 birds here, which I believe is the highest number recorded in one group around the school area.

The movement of Crested Pigeons into Melbourne suburbia continues.

Last week I recorded two adult birds feeding in the parklands (ne corner) surrounding the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This is just a few km from the GPO.
