Sightings
30 April
On a BOCA digital photography workshop-outing to Serendip, six species of
raptor were seen: 5+ Whistling Kite, 3 Little Eagle (2 dark morph), 2
Wedge-tailed Eagle, one Spotted Harrier, one Brown Goshawk & one Black
Falcon. Thanks Glen White.
30 April
A single Crested Pigeon was sighted on the eastern end of the Stratford
township. Thanks Duncan Fraser.
29 April
Flame Robins are not often seen among the dairylands around Warrnambool.
Male and female seen today on bank of Hopkins estuary between Warrnambool
and Allansford. Thanks Peter Tyler.
25 April
There was an adult Black Falcon flying over the vast section of dried lake
bed at Lake Burrumbeet, west of Ballarat. Also hundreds of Red-necked
Advocets foraging in the vast area of shallow water that is present. Thanks

25 April
A group of finches were recorded feeding on exotic grass seeds alongside
Orchard Road, Hamilton Park (approx halfway between Glenrowan and
Wangaratta). Amongst this group were 20+ Red-browed Firetail, two Zebra
Finch, a Spotted Pardalote and a single Double-barred Finch. Thanks Chris

24 April
The highlights of the monthly Eastern Treatment Plant survey include late
Marsh Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper and 57 Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and 14
Double-banded Plover. Thanks Euan Fothergill per Mike Carter.
24 April
A remarkable day at Whipstick/Kamarooka section of GBNP, with 15 species of
honeyeater seen. Highlights were 4-5 White-fronted Honeyeater, 5-6
Purple-gaped Honeyeater, 1 Tawny-crowned Honeyeater, Yellow-faced Honeyeater
absolutely everywhere in all habitats, innumerable Purple-crowned, Little
and Musk Lorikeets, 10-15 White-browed and 1 Masked Woodswallow, Red-capped
Robin, 3-4 Shy Heathwren, 3 Diamond Firetail, Collared Sparrowhawk and
Wedge-tailed Eagle. 65 species for the morning. Thanks Steve Davidson.
24 April
There were approx.35 Orange Chats in a paddock full of Atriplex sp. (huge
roly-polys) 10kms west of Pyramid Hill(SW of junction of Collins Road and
the Pyramid/Gladfield Road Vicroads map 30 A2). Note that Collins Road does
continue north to meet the Gladfield Road, not shown on my Vicroads map.

A single Powerful Owl was heard calling along McLeans Highway (VicRoads Map
77-F7) in the Brisbane Ranges National Park on Saturday night. Thanks Aaron

23 April
At Mount Disappointment State Forest, No.1 Camp there were 3 Spotted
Quail-thrush and a female Rose Robin. Thanks Michael Ramsey.
20 April
A Brown Gerygone was seen at Sherbrooke section of Dandenong Ranges NP along
Wattle Track, 300m from Sherbrook Road. Thanks Peter Crabtree per Mike
Carter.
19 April
4 Red-Kneed Dotterel at Truganina Swamp, Altona. Thanks Colin Clark.
17 April
There were about a two dozen Swift Parrots seen feeding in Grey Box trees in
the Mia Mia Rd, Mia Mia Track area of the Muckleford forest Newstead. Also a
large number of Fork-tailed Swifts flying high above the same area. Thanks

17 April
Look at this report from John Barkla at the Western Treatment Plant. As well
as 2 Orange-bellied Parrots other highlights for the day were: 200-300
Freckled Duck (I counted over 200 but there were many others on the adjacent
lagoon which I could not see properly); a Flame Robin at the mouth of the
Little River (Fred saw 6 there yesterday); Sharp-tailed Sandpipers,
Red-necked Stints and White-winged Black Terns in full breeding plumage; 5
Common Terns (Michael Seyfort had seen over 20 earlier in the day) and 7
Fairy Terns; some unusual passerines for the WTP (presumably moving through)
including 5 Mistletoebirds, 2 Crested Shriketits, Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters
(regular winter visitors) and Spotted and Striated Pardalotes; many Cape
Barren Geese (now a regular feature); nesting Darters; and a dozen
Black-tailed Native-hens crammed together under a one metre wide Boxthorn to
escape the attentions of a quite interested Swamp Harrier. In all they saw
exactly 100 species on the WTP for the day. Thanks John Barkla.

At a swamp in Harrison road, Dennington (Warrnambool), 5 Wood Sandpipers mid
morning, still there late afternoon, not found Monday or Tuesday. Thanks

17 April
On the Flooding Creek Track, Sale, this Sunday morning during the ABSA bird
walk, many immature Olive-backed Orioles, a Shining Bronze Cuckoo, and many
Darters, including half a dozen soaring over the Sale Common water body.

The highlights of the monthly Port Fairy Pelagic include: 10 Slender-billed
Prions, 15 Antarctic Prions, 2 Sooty Albatross and a Grey-backed
Storm-Petrel. Thanks Rohan Clarke.

A single Orange-bellied Parrot was seen at the Spit at the Western Treatment
Plant. Thanks Simon Mustoe.
16 April
There were 3 Zebra Finch on Mansfield Road, on the north west side of
Melbourne Airport. Thanks Michael Ramsey.
Updates
25 April
ANZAC Day at the Werribee Sewage Farm: Paradise Ponds/ Lake Borrie: Black
Falcon (2 ind's, repeatedly hunting over ponds for 1 hr), Freckled Duck (min
150, potentially lots more), Cape Barren Goose (ca 20). Spit/T-junction:
Spotted Crake (ca 10), Spotless Crake (1), Buff-banded Rail (2), Brolga (3),
still more than 100 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, a few Curlew SPs, still
hundreds of Red-necked Stints. Also, Wayne Longmore reported both OBPs (both
bearing a green band) from the surroundings of the gate to the T-junction
area in early morning. Thanks Frank Rheindt.
