Hi all,

Was told by a non birding friend that he had found a strange bird beside a walkway off his street in the north shore suburb of Gordon in sydney.

Went looking for the bird at app. 4:00pm today and had no luck but subsequently saw a girl walking along with the bird in a cage It turned out to be an adult Fantailed Cuckoo and by the look of it had suffered an attack from some miners.
It was missing all its tail feathers and had a broken wing.
The bird was taken to WIRES

Could this bird have been juvenile just fledged and late to migrate or an adult which decided to overwinter?

Regards,

Kurtis Lindsay
