We seem to have domestic duck thread happening. The ducks in question are of Mallard origin but probably not Mallards per se. but a breed derivative (most likely a mongrel breed derivative). Anthea suggest Cayuga but this isn't correct. Cayugas are essentially black - the males never show any white while females become whiter with age. I suggest those interested have a look at http://www.domestic-waterfowl.co.uk/cayuga.htm. If you delete the /Cayuga bit you will get a selection of duck breeds. The birds in the photos show a typically "mallard-like" plumage which is exhibited in a whole range of domestic duck breeds (you can get Mallard coloured Indian Runners!). My best bet is that, as they are most likely dumped birds - they are mongrels (much as most dumped kittens are mongrels). This brings up an interesting point for those who keep lists. Is a mongrel domestic duck tickable as a mallard or can you only tick those birds that are "real" mallards. Again, go to the above website to see the variety of domestic ducks that are out there.
