Hi Dave and all, Your "New Zealand friends" have already made a mess of this situation, and are alleged to be complicating it further when our new NZ Checklist is published. The current NZ Checklist includes all the obvious bits of NZ and all the sub-Antactic islands - even Macquarie which is Australian territory. This is apparently on the grounds that it is part of our bio-geographical area. The same logic cannot apply to the Ross Dependancy on the Antarctic mainland, but that is also included (?!). The next step is supposed to be the inclusion of Norfolk Island (but not Lord Howe). I have already suggested that our checklist be called "A Checklist of the bird of New Zealand.....and a few bits of Australia". Maybe we should go the whole hog and include the large landmass of "West Island" as well. Sav Saville Wrybill Birding Tours, NZ 23 Duke St Feilding New Zealand +64 6 323 1441 www.wrybill-tours.com |
