I have no problem accepting that Magpie Geese may have (or even probably) bred in the Clarence. It's not my place to make such judgements. There is certainly suitable habitat for them to breed in the Clarence. Nevertheless, I find it surprising that there are no substantiated breeding records for the northern rivers (or, perhaps, only one record from the Clarence). The BA Atlas certainly has breeding reported from SE Qld. Mind you, even if the majority of geese in northern NSW come from Qld they may originate from much further north where populations are much larger. All this is speculation on my part. Unless someone does some colour-marking of geese in these areas (which is probably most unlikely) the question will remain unanswered.
