It is a bit more difficult to determine when the summer migrants actually
leave until you finally realise that they are no longer calling. I reckon
the Channel-billed Cuckoos have left this area (Toronto on Lake Macquarie)-
maybe a week ago now. Koel and Dollar Birds are still here.

On the subject of the Koel, I saw a male flying (guiltily) away from my
cherry tomato patch the other day and it had a brown feather down either
side of its tail which none of my books show as a variation- although I
don't have the relevant HANZAB volume yet.

For the local recorder- I've just spotted a Pacific Baza in the trees near
my house (Bolton Point). I used my xlnt Nikon10x42 Monarchs and at 70m could
not only see the yellow eye but also the black iris.
