Assuming that the Curly Sandpiper isn't an even more aberrant Wrybill, it's not surprising that ther are some very odd birds in newspaper reports. The spell-checker has a lot to answer for, and so does the reporter half-hearing things he doesn't know much about. Some we have heard were the 'pair of green falcons', and the Glamorous Reed-warbler. Kids contribute some funny ones too, such as the Frogmithe (singular is Frogmouse).
