I've had too many highlights to mention all of them. Since taking up
birdwatching seriously just under two years ago I've added about 250
birds to my life list, most of them this year. Highlights were a
month at Newhaven Reserve as a volunteer for Birds Australia
(volunteers are always appreciated if you're interested), brief trips
to SW Western Australia, and several field surveys to Lamington NP
near Brisbane for my studies. While I doubt I'll be able to equal the
number of birds added this year, I expect to have a good 2005, during
which I'll be taking up a 9 month contract at the Broome Bird
Observatory as assistant warden.

If I had to pick an absolute highlight of the year, it would probably
be having a whole covey of 7 Brown Quail wandering around on the grass
about 3 metres from me, either oblivious of me and my camera, or not
caring. This happened about 1km from my house in the Brisbane
suburbs.

I may already have a higlight for moment of 2005 with a close
encounter with an Olive Whistler in Tassie, but more on that later.

Regards,
Chris - Brisbane
