It's stating the obvious but ... 15 Sanderlings is a long way short of 10 000. I'm often curious where the people who put these "fact" sheets together get their information. The Aust Museum Fact Sheet for Magpie Goose states that nests are "placed either in a floating platform of trampled reeds or built in tree tops". They give as their only reference the Photographic Index book on Waterbirds. There is no reference to tree nesting in that, or any other, source that I've read to date. I'm chasing this information up as I think the tree nesting of Magpie Geese we have on the Macquarie River at the moment should be documented properly. Errors will always creep into things (I had an embarrassing one in my last Regent Honeyeater newsletter - although to date only one person has reported it to me) but one would like to think that these fact or information sheets have some firm basis.
