Took a short walk thisafternoon. Quite dry, these wetlands! Twice I put up (Vs flushed) a pair of Brown Quail: they fluttered away about 20m and settled into grass, well out of sight. I did manage to flush one bird from the grass - its flight could not have been described as "fluttering": it was the normal escape flight, into a dry reedbed.

These birds went up from beside a path, twice, an hour apart. It seems late to be breeding, but I resisted the temptation to trample the grass, and possibly a nest. I'll try to get back there tomorrow.

Cheers
