Without consulting any of the literature, my understanding is that
Gang-gangs are birds of mountain forests and descend both east and west of
the GDR in winter. (The occurrence of many planted cypresses and other
exotic berry and cone producing trees and shrubs in Canberra makes them
unnaturally abundant in Canberra in the winter months).
It may be correct that thier summer breeding range is well-preserved, but it
strikes me that it's their winter range that isn't (ie coastal forests,
cypress-rich woodlands on the western slopes).
