I know I know, we are not supposed to advertise on this net,
but I have had a book come into my possession which I think may be of interest
to people with an in interest in the more historical side of ornithology.
It is a 1950 edition of “ An Australian Bird
Book” by Dr J.A. Leach, published by Whitcombe & Tombs of Melbourne. This is
presumably the Leach after which Leach’s Storm-Petrel was named (?).
The book of 200 pages has a foreword ( memoirs) about Dr
Leach by Charles Barrett before going into Leach’s descriptions and
pictures of Australia’s
birds which contain many variants in common names and species classification.
Any offers ?
