Hi,
Thanks to Mike for posting details of his sightings
yesterday, I went down to have a look at Woodlands Industrial Estate today and
found both the Ruff and Pectoral Sandpiper still there. Viewing however was more
difficult than I had hoped for. Almost all the sharpies were on islands on the
centre lake rather than on the flash behind the lakes. Heat haze was quite a
problem and the birds were mainly sitting amongst vegetation. The Ruff (reeve)
was initially feeding on the edge of the northern most lake before it flushed to
one of the islands with the sharpies. The Pec Sand took a bit of finding as it
was with a relatively small flock most easily viewed from the side of the lake
nearest the road. It's in good plumage though but getting a lot of attention
from a sharpie. Not sure if these were aggressive or amorous advances but either
way the bird kept bolting back onto the island so was not in view for very long
at a time.
Whilst there, two Little Eagles also flew over.
Regards,
Simon Mustoe
