Hi birders
I've seen little discussion on this list so far in 2004 about the
approaching Twitchathon - no bragging or attempted intimidation - or
indeed much at all about how much $$$$ is to be collected for bird
conservation projects around the country. None that is except for the
odd plea from organisers for a bit of interest!!
This is the first year in years that I will not actually be fielding a
team in the Victorian Twitchathon, and that feels a bit odd. It's
usually a highlight of the year (and not just because we often WIN -
there's the bragging out of the way early). This year I'm just a bit
too busy with other matters (work & family) to get organised to enter.
I normally try to spruik up a bit of interest on this list each year -
send out the challenge for other teams to have a crack at mine, etc. So
this year it's from the sidelines, but nonetheless I want to encourage
as many people to participate as possible. Get a team together and have
a bit of fun on the weekend trawling your favourite birding spots for
the big tally - make sure you sponsor a team or two - and talk about the
event to other potential sponsors.
Is there any competive spirit out there? I'd like to see a bit of
Twitchathon rhetoric trotted out on Birding-Aus - so we can assess the
contenders before placing our bets.

Some misty-eyed sentimentalism about past events (from me) is (out of
date, but) here:
