Re: Regent Honeyeaters at Durikai SF

Roy mentioned Regent Honeyeaters in Durikai State Forest near Warwick, southern Qld.

I've had reports of Regents from a number of locations in the Durikai since early August.  The birds at the waterhole were first seen by myself, Ken ?? (damn my memory for names) and local birdo Lorraine Welsh on 13 September.  If anyone has an earlier date please let me know.  Since then they have been seen by numerous people.  

Another pair nested right by the highway itself (fledging on the 19th of September).  When I saw this nest on the 13th it was attended by a sole parent (my first record of this behaviour in Regent Honeyeaters).  Judging by her behaviour (hawking for insects off the bitumen early in the morning) it would be no surprise if the male made it to Melbourne on the grill of a truck!

Elsewhere in the district other Regents have also been breeding successfully.  This is an annual event that suggests we have a relic breeding population hanging on in southern Qld.

Could I encourage everyone seeing these birds to let me know.  It's not only important to document new birds at new locations but to keep track of the birds we know about.  Please also check for colour-bands.
